The Harraseeket Inn has partnered with Thos. Moser, designers and builders of heirloom quality hand-crafted wood furniture, to create the one-of-a-kind deluxe Moser Room.
"The Harraseeket Inn has a long standing commitment to support local businesses, both for food and for product. We do it happily to preserve what we have and to support our local industries." said Nancy Gray, Owner of the Harraseeket Inn. "Partnering with Thos. Moser was a natural fit, as we are both companies committed to preserving our natural resources. And we're pleased to be able to offer our guests a more unique Maine experience when they stay in the Moser Room.”
The Moser Room experience begins just after guests cross the threshold: a permanent wall installation by artists Colin Sullivan-Stevens and Friederike Hamann of the Portland, Maine based company Field, is inspired by the American black cherry forests of the Allegheny Plateau of Pennsylvania, the source of much of Moser's sustainably grown and harvested wood. This subtle piece renders Moser's deep connection to, and responsibility for, natural resources, and sets the tone for the whole space.
The furniture in The Moser Room is a mix of classic Moser pieces designed by company founder Tom Moser, as well as more modern pieces designed by his son David. The compatible combination of these different designs is a hallmark of Thos. Moser furniture's universality and enduring aesthetic. Pieces in the room include a walnut Pencil Post Queen Bed, occasional tables from several Thos. Moser collections, a workspace complete with an Aria Writing Desk and Pasadena Side Chair, a lounge area with Vita seating, and a Dr. White's Chest with a secret storage compartment.Thos. Moser's signature piece, the Continuous Arm Chair, is also represented in the suite in both a children's version and one for adults; the latter has been signed by both Tom and David Moser. Everything in the room is available for purchase; other pieces of furniture and artwork can also be customized and commissioned upon request, and a complete portfolio of all furniture, arts and accessories is available to guests.
"Both Thos. Moser and the Harraseeket Inn are Maine icons, and we are excited to offer guests a completely unique lodging experience that celebrates our shared regional heritage," said Kristi Kamps, vice president of marketing and merchandising at Thos. Moser and designer of the luxury room. "Our flagship Freeport showroom is across the street from the Inn, and we have been affiliated with the Inn for many years. As long-time neighbors, we look forward to this deeper partnership and to welcoming visitors to Maine together."
Other Maine-made products are also featured in the Moser Room. Cuddledown, based in Portland, Maine, has provided linens and blankets. Guests can make selections from a Cuddledown "pillow menu", whose options include a variety of soft and medium options in either memory foam or down fills. Swans Island Blankets, based in Northport, Maine, has provided hand-woven wool blankets. The room features the works of Maine artists on a rotating basis. Currently on display in the room are ceramic pieces by Tim Cichocki, oil paintings of the hands of Moser craftspeople by Tanya Fletcher, and mixed media works by Shoshannah White.
An industry leader in luxury and excellence, the Harraseeket Inn has long been known for their support of the community, as well as their environmental and organic practices. Their commitment goes well beyond asking guests to reuse their towels or offering a few organic items on the menu. It begins with the Inn's two award winning restaurants serving only 100% organic or naturally raised foods, supplied primarily by local Maine producers. They recycle paper, glass, metal, plastic, newspaper, food waste, grass clippings and leaves, and turn almost three-quarters of all inn waste into black compost and use it on the Inn's gardens or give it to individual local farmers who grow the organic or naturally raised food for the Inn's two restaurants. They donate all deep-fat frying oil to a local organic farmer who heats all his winter greenhouses with it and the Inn operates a Mercedes Benz station wagon on 80/20 biodiesel fuel to pick people up at the airport or in downtown Freeport. And they partner with companies like Thos. Moser, who have the same deep rooted commitment to preserving the environment that they do.
A visit to the Harraseeket Inn is the perfect way to unwind and truly enjoy the spirit of Maine, the way life should be. The Moser Room can be booked by going to www.harraseeketinn.com or by calling 1-800-342-6423. Rates are subject to availability.
