On July 8th 2008 as reported by an Australian news The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Heritage Committee has been meeting in Quebec City, from July 2-10 to consider adding to its coveted list of protected architectural and natural wonders.
In among 45 new sites that are vying for inclusions, a HINDU temple (Preah Vihear temple) in Cambodia, historic Malaysian towns and an agricultural site from Papua New Guinea were added to UNESCO's World Heritage List today. Preah Vihear temple is an awe-inspiring site, set on a roughly 600 meters above sea level on Dong Rak mountain summit, unfortunately in the past this temple is isolated and damaged by many years of war, but now the Royal Government of Cambodia together with many other foreign AIDS agencies are helping to rebuild roads and infrastructure hoping to bring the glory back to this holy temple. Preah Vihear adorn and worship by Khmer Buddhists, believed to be a sacred site and santuary for Gods by the Khmer Empire Hindu King in 11th Century AD, the temples overlook several mountains top and beautiful scenery and forest below. With Preah Vihear temple being a newest World Cultural Heritage site, this will open more opportunities for visitors to combine an exciting trip to many other interesting cultural sites in the northern region of Cambodia likewise. Such combination would include the 10th Century Pyramid style Koh Ker temple which is on the way from Siem Reap to Preah Vihear temple and other national treasures along the way.
