Opening ceremony of the world's leading tourism exhibition; ITB - Berlin staged show of its 2010 partner country; Turkey.

Turkey's Culture & Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay, German Minister of Economics & Technology Rainer Bruederle and Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit attended the gala on Tuesday night, March 9th.

Guests amazed with a colourful show by Turkey's most popular dance group, Fire of Anatolia.

"Turkey closed the year 2009 with revenues and success despite regression in tourism in many countries in the world," Gunay said during the opening ceremony. Gunay added that Germany had a great share in that success. Gunay expects that a further 10 percent increase in arrivals from four to five million German tourists in 2010.

Bruederle expressed sorrow over the earthquake that hit the eastern Turkish province of Elazig, and said German government was ready to help Turkey.

With more than 180,000 visitors, among these 108,000 trade visitors, and over 10,000 exhibitors from 180 countries ITB Berlin is the leading tourism exhibition in the world. Turkey participates in the fair with a 3,000 square meter stand.
