Mexico's President, Felipe Calderon, was joined
by the Governor of Quintana Roo, Felix Gonzalez Canto, and other Mexican
authorities in a ceremony to inaugurate Cancun's new beaches and officially end
the destination's beach restoration project.
Cancun's beaches, known all over the world
for their unique beauty and breathtaking turquoise waters, underwent a $71
Million Dollar investment, delivering more than two thousand tons of pipeline
material to the destination and more than 1.3 billion gallons of sand to
replenish all of Cancun's Hotel Zone seashore, bringing back 6.5 miles of sand
from Punta Cancun to Punta Nizuc.
The
project, which began on September 4th, 2009 and was successfully completed on
February 9th of this year, was funded by state and federal governments, local
municipalities and private investments.
The result is a spectacular 131-foot wide beach oasis.
