Istanbul Music Festival Celebrates 35th Anniversary

International Istanbul Music Festival, one of the most important events of Istanbul's music life is celebrating its 35th anniversary along with Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts. The 35th Festival will embrace a very special programme including a commemoration concert for Ahmet Adnan Saygun's 100th birthday, who contributed educating noteworthy composer and musicians, as well as a concert "The Divan of Rumî & Bach" for the 800th birthday of Jalal al-Din al-Rumi, to share his wisdom and philosophy. Another big surprise of the Festival will be the world premier of Sir John Tavener's coral work "The Beautiful Names."

Sponsored by Borusan Holding since last year, the 35th edition of the International Istanbul Music Festival will take place June, 2-30. Preparing to host more than 1000 artists from Turkey and abroad, the Festival will fill art lovers' summer evenings with music special to its 35th anniversary.

The 35th International Istanbul Music Festival comprises 9 symphony and chamber orchestras, 9 chamber music concerts, 2 recitals, 2 choruses, one traditional music and one non-classical music concerts, adding up to 23 events. Welcoming its audience in various parts of the city, the Music Festival this year has the Hagia Eirene Museum, Atatürk Cultural Centre, Esma Sultan Yalisi and the Bulgar Church as its venues.
