| A Million Passengers Passed Through Sydney's T2 Terminal
For the first time ever, more than a million passengers a month have passed through Sydney Airport 's T2 terminal.
T2 is the domestic terminal used by Jetstar, Virgin Blue, Rex, QantasLink and Aeropelican.
The million passenger milestone was reached in October when just over a million passengers arrived and landed through T2.
The CEO of Sydney Airport Corporation, Russell Balding, said that the new record was encouraging news for the Australian tourism industry with the Christmas holiday season just ahead.
"T2 is now the busiest of the three terminals at Sydney Airport and is a vital part of the leisure travel market.
"T2 is the former Ansett Terminal. I'm sure people recall that when Sydney Airport Corporation acquired the terminal it was pretty much a ghost terminal. Since then we have transformed it into a vibrant and busy transport hub. It is a real success story.
"Earlier this year we completed a $20 million upgrade at T2 which provided more facilities and greater choice of retail outlets for passengers.
"We have almost finished re-tiling the arrivals baggage reclaim area to improve the appearance and provide a lighter, modern feel.
"I'd like to acknowledge Sydney Airport 's staff, and the staff of the airlines and other agencies, who ensured that the terminal operated smoothly in managing these record passenger numbers," Mr Balding said. |
